Winnie, a true nation-builder in the making
Winnie Godlove Msamba is 15 years old, in form 3 at Kisutu Girls Secondary School and she is the chairperson of the computer and lab management club at her school. She is one of the 100 girls who attended the coding workshop held by our Change Leader, Carolyne Ekyarisiima, through her initiative, Apps & Girls in the month of July, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She is very passionate about technology and after the workshop, she was quoted to have said:-
“As I am growing up, I am beginning to discover more and more that being around computers is what I love. I have met girls in Secondary School who have the same passion as I do, but the problem is we did not know where to start. It’s the 21st century and technology has taken place worldwide and being among the 21st century girls, I love to learn and widen my knowledge, at the same time sharing ideas with other girls.”
“Attending the HTML workshop was the best thing I have ever done. The programs that we learnt and the inspirational stories I have heard, have made me think that being young does not stop me from doing something big. Sharing ideas with other girls has given me strength to dream bigger, now more than ever. I’m determined to work harder so that one day I can be known among other women who weren’t selfish by keeping the knowledge to themselves but shared it with others. I believe that if more girls gain access to technology, our country will have many great women in the future who will work to build it, such as myself.”
Apps & Girls plans to continue to impact more lives of girls such as Winnie by holding similar workshops across the country.
