TAREO is active in all over Tanzania to provide education, information access and ICT knowledge especially to the poor rural population. This helps these people to increase their income, improve their living circumstances and finally gain a responsible political voice to secure their social and economic rights.
As we have managed to have technology school for children , we have come to realize that those children from our school once join primary school and late secondary school still need to use ICT and technology in their studies other wise the skills may be ending at the kindergarten and pre primary level.
To accomplish these we are seeking fund to establish the ICT lab and HUB to be used in the community school of more than 500 students .
Here is the summary of the proposed project.
Summary
This project will deliver Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) solutions to Ghona primary and sec shool (located in underserved rural areas of Moshi rural district, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania), through the establishment of innovative computer and internet based learning programs in the school curriculum. As a result, 500 students will improve their math and science skills and 20 school teachers will gain skills and knowledge in computer literacy and internet usage. The total cost for implementing the project is $26,150 and together with the community support we have rose $7, 100, the balance that we seek support of $19,050
Challenge
Lack of access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in rural areas, is one of the main challenges in the development field, especially in the education sector. Unlike their urban counterparts, rural youth don’t have the opportunity to gain computer skills as a result urban youth are more likely to find employment. This growing disparity (or “digital divide”) is severely disadvantaging a whole generation of youth growing up in the rural areas.
Solution
We will provide computer and internet access within rural schools to undeserved children and youth to support their educational development. An appropriate and innovative math and science curriculum will be designed accordingly to the educational system regulations, social and cultural contexts of Tanzania. Teachers will be trained in math and science teaching programs as well as in computer literacy and internet usage as part of the first stage of the project implementation.
Long-Term Impact
Children and youth educational development will be enhanced. This will put them in a better poistion to find jobs after they graduate. Teachers experience in teaching computer and internet based learning programs will enhance their qualifications. The digital divide will be bridged resulting in new opportunities for children, youth, teachers and the community as a whole.
