NNEKA YOUTH FOUNDATION joined St Dominic Savio RC Basis School in Afienya on the 29th of January to Celebrate Catholic Education Week. The week long celebration started on the 25th and as part of the program there was a deliberation on Career Guidance with the 620 youth of the school. From an early age children should be encouraged to think about the following: What they have interest in – Gifts and talent; what they are naturally good at, what skills and activities come naturally to them, what they enjoy doing, and what they want to do when they are older.
Do they understand what their parents do (their careers)?
Do they understand how different jobs make up the society that they live in?
We shared with them how unique they are and why they need to be focused. How necessary it is for them to Know themselves with the following factors in mind when making career choices: Socio Economic factors, Physical and mental abilities, Personality and Motivation.
The Children were encouraged to know; the importance of being a positive and constructive member of society.the results of not being a positive and constructive member of society.Enjoying childhood and teenage years while still remembering that they will one day become adults. However, they were reminded that, there are hundreds, thousands if not millions of distractions that are available to take their attention away from the path that will lead them to that dream job or career that they always wanted.Very often life turns out very differently from what one had originally expected and one ends up accepting jobs or careers that are very distant from what they actually wanted to do when they became adults.
We concluded by teaching them why it is important to set GOALS– Vision, Importance of Vision, Principles of Fulfilling ones Vision, Goals and how to set them.
