Talk of exceeding targets! Its a good feeling!

30th May, 2013, Tamale……….The NNSS today trained 80 midwives and other health staff in the use of our call system. The event which occurred at the Ghana Health Service Training Center in Tamale also saw the networking of twenty-eight (28) facilities and equipping them with phones(donated by Tigo) for the purpose of newborn care. We are indeed grateful to the Dr. Jacob Mahama, Northern Regional Deputy-Director of Health Services and Madam Margaret Nmini,the Regional Public health Nurse of the Ghana Health Service for their presence and support.

With this we have exceeded our target for training and facilities to be networked for this year. We are grateful to God and all our partners for your support.This is just the beginning.Will upload pics soon

Hello folks, the NNSS has seen a tremendous deal of activity over the past week. Last week we successfully organized our first neonatal resuscitation programme at the tamale Teaching Hospital. We were also priviliged to receive a kind donation of 50 phones from Tigo last tuesday for our call network system during our official launch. More pictures soon.

Strategies on a Sunday Night

sun 12th May.. 21:21 GMT…….May I begin by wishing all mothers a happy mothers day! Life of a Change Leader can be full of stress. I have hardly had any rest this week.In spite of all challenges,we will yet press on.

I have discovered the great energy released when a change leader retreats into his or her “secret place” to strategize for the coming week. It is great to have a mental picture of your weekly activities ahead of time.Sunday nights are such days for me.

As I sit here in my room,my mind cannot help but keep exploring activities of my pathway of change:the need to help newly qualified doctors in my ward with baby life saving skills, planned mother’s day donation of items to mothers on my ward under our MEDICAID programme are but a few of my pressing concerns.

As I work around strategies to organize a strategic dialogue,I can’t help but feel excited as Tigo comes to Tamale this week to help start our call system.

But in the multitude of all these, I have realized that spending a little time to cool off and focus has tremendous benefits.So here I am sitting and planning,looking ahead to a far Brighter week for all of us at the NNSS.

the coming week will be great.I can already sense it!

Excitement in the Air !

The past week has been full of activity and excitement for our team at the NNSS. First, we are more than over joyed for our babies with the calling off of the doctors strike.whew! Normal service resumes.

Additionally we were visited by the head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital,together with two senior nurses.We are indeed overwhelmed by their genuine support for us.

But then,nothing excites more than to think of Tigo arriving in town next week to help kick start our call system.Excitement is at fever pitch………..we can’t wait!

Health Sector Strikes And Newborn Health

The past week has been a challenging one for us at the NNSS. We successfully organized our fourth parents class on Monday, the 29th of April, 2013. We look forward to expanding our phone network and organize our first Newborn Resuscitation Class.

We have tried to analyze the impact of the current health sector strikes on our precious babies. From our sources within the major health care facilities in Northern Ghana, the industrial actions are having serious consequences on our babies. Parents are travelling distances to procure essential medication while some have had to go back home disappointed.

We can only hope and pray that the situation normalizes as soon as possible but until then, we will continue doing what we do best – working for happy, healthier babies.
