Safe Child Ghana in partnership with TiGO Communication Network awarded Providence Educational Complex, the innovative and prestigious Child Safety Award for 2011.
The Award was given at a colourful ceremony on the school premises at Ashaiman. What with the dance drama, safety songs, plays and traditional dances. The inspiring appearances of the Assistant Director of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, TiGO staff, Ghana Education Service personnel, Municipal Fire Chief Officer and her staff, parents, Dr. Cryme, a popular hiplife artist, famous actress Ama Abebrese and presence of the press was very memorable.
The school was presented with educational and playing materials, building materials and several TiGO branded items, including several modems, all valued at Seven Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 7,500 or US$ 5,000).
The CEO of Safe Child Ghana, Eunice Gifty Baabu praised the school for its sterling adherence to safety rules. She noted that, the school exhibited immense safety attitudes which were the prime elements Safe Child Ghana looked out for among the ten (10) shortlisted schools.
Mrs. Baabu further acknowledged Sedco Publishing, Builders World, Sub-Saharan Publishers, and Ultimum Books and Stationery for their contribution and support.
On his part, Mr. Stanley Okoh, CSR Regional Coordinator of TiGO Africa congratulated the school on winning the grand award, and noted that TiGO would not relent in supporting Michael Baabu’s work which Playing For Change has espoused as a Playmaker of Change in promoting safety in the community.
The day would be indeed a red-letter one for the school as Dr. Cryme, a popular young Ghanaian hiplife artist, graced the occasion and rocked the pupils with his hit track “Kill Me Shy”. Dr. Cryme advised the children to take their studies seriously, and continue to champion safety awareness in their various homes and communities.
